Mobile Protection

Mobile devices, such as smartphones, are not immune from being utilized as a method of compromising a victim’s identity or gaining access to banking information. There is a wealth of information stored on a smartphone and there are steps which can be taken to protect that data and mitigate risk associated with a potential loss.

  • Consult your provider for various anti-virus, remote-wipe, and encryption applications.
  • Enable and utilize the lock feature on your device and create an easy to remember but hard to guess password.
  • As with conducting online banking or shopping from a personal computer, ensure that you are typing the address of website directly.
  • If you receive a suspicious text message requesting an urgent account update or to verify personal information. Please contact the requesting institution directly, do not follow a provided link or contact numbers provided. This is also known as ‘smishing’.
  • If you lose your phone contact your provider immediately.
  • If the phone was used to access email or was used to access online vendors or financial institutions; please change your passwords on each account and contact your institution to inquire about any charges or transfers which may have occurred after the loss.
