From Intern to Associate Analyst: Growing a Career in Data at WSFS

2 min read

For Mohammad Abuasi, a passion for data and analytics—and the right opportunity through Year Up United—sparked a career at WSFS Bank as an Associate Business Analyst.

As a Wilmington University student majoring in data analytics, Abuasi joined WSFS as a Business Analyst Intern at the start of 2025. He came through the Year Up United program, a national workforce development program that provides young adults with hands-on training, mentorship, and corporate internships to help bridge the opportunity gap and launch successful professional careers. His experience at WSFS provided the hands-on introduction into data-powered decision-making across the organization.

“During my internship, I often shadowed team members, assisted with data analysis tasks, and learned how different departments collaborate within the company,” said Abuasi. “I was able to turn data into information through reports that supported business decisions.”

Through Year Up United and WSFS, Abuasi gained valuable exposure to the financial sector while developing analytical and professional skills that translated seamlessly into his now full-time role.

“My internship set me up for success by introducing me to what Associates do daily,” said Abuasi. “I met with different departments to learn how my job connects to what the other departments do.”

When it came to accepting a full-time offer with WSFS, Abuasi says the environment made him want to keep coming back.

“Everyone was welcoming, helpful, and caring. The managers valued my opinions and provided excellent training. They went above and beyond to help me achieve my goals and gain the skills I needed,” said Abuasi.

Now as a full-time Associate, Abuasi focuses on FDIC and procedures projects along with requests from different departments.

“Mohammad’s journey is a great example of how real-world experience and mentorship can turn an internship into a meaningful career,” said Herb Broadwater, Recruiting Program Lead. “Programs like Year Up United help us connect with talented individuals who bring curiosity, dedication, and a strong desire to grow. Mohammad’s success reflects the culture of learning and belonging that WSFS strives to create for every Associate.”

For those considering an internship or career at WSFS, Abuasi’s advice is simple: “It is definitely a great place to work, with management and coworkers looking out for you as a person and as a professional,” he said. “They are always open to answering questions, offering guidance, and making sure you have the tools to succeed.”

“WSFS truly invests in its people,” added Abuasi. “The supportive environment and opportunities for growth make it a place where you can build a long-term career.”

Abuasi started as one of WSFS’ summer interns positioned in departments across the company. If you are interested in taking the next step to join WSFS as an intern or in a full-time role, you can learn more by going to wsfsbank.com/careers.
