Internships are an important part of the college experience, and for Trevor McDaniel, it’s an experience that’s helping him reach his long-term goals. Working as a Commercial Lending Intern within the bank’s Centralized Credit Group, he’s walking away with tangible experiences going into his final year at school at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.
McDaniel’s internship is focused on doing market research, analyzing companies’ financial statements and using financial tools for loan underwriting like interest rate swaps and caps. It’s a skillset that’s set him up to help the team find solutions to complex deals.
“I’ve learned how to analyze financial statements, adjust certain expenses and run sensitivity or stress tests,” said McDaniel. “I’ve also gained experience reviewing personal and business tax returns and understanding how to determine collateral.”
Working with Associates across the enterprise in Commercial Lending, Equity Research, Wealth Management, Capital Markets and Asset Recovery, McDaniel says he’s coming out of his internship growing both personally and professionally.
“The people at WSFS are supportive and open to helping you,” said McDaniel. “But it’s up to you to take initiative and make the most out of every opportunity.”
That willing-to-help attitude is what drew McDaniel originally. Throughout his interview process, he says everyone was welcoming and knowledgeable.
“I could tell it was a place where I could grow, learn and be part of a strong team,” said McDaniel.
Now, only one year out from the “real world,” he says WSFS is helping him reach his three main goals: be someone of strong character, become a great investor and analyst and help the communities he grew up in.
McDaniel is one of WSFS’ many interns this summer positioned in departments across the company. If you are interested in taking the next step to joining WSFS, learn more by visiting wsfsbank.com/careers.
