Ryan Ferreira Explores Business Banking at WSFS

Sadie: To start off, tell me about yourself and what sparked your interest in finance.

Ryan: My name is Ryan Ferreira, and I’m a finance major at West Chester University. This summer I am a Consumer Banking Strategy intern on the Finance and Analytics team, and have had an incredibly positive experience. Outside of the office, I am really passionate about financial education and helping others invest and manage their money. That passion motivated me to want to learn more through a financial services internship.

Sadie: That’s incredible. With that passion in mind, what made WSFS the right fit for you?

Ryan: WSFS’ commitment to community really stood out to me. Giving back is something I care about deeply—I volunteer regularly—so seeing a company that not only values community impact but also supports it in meaningful ways was a strong draw.

Sadie: Once you joined the organization, what did your day-to-day role on the Business Banking team look like?

Ryan: I am working mostly on the consumer side, which involves analytics and supporting back-end operations. I am helping to ensure data accuracy and supporting teams responsible for lending and customer-related processes. It’s a mix of projects, which has been a great opportunity to learn.

Sadie: You’ve had the opportunity to contribute to several initiatives this summer. Which projects have been especially meaningful or impactful for you?

Ryan: I am currently working on a project about workforce and productivity analysis—looking at how staffing levels relate to output and revenue. It’s given me valuable exposure to how data informs decision-making.

Sadie: It’s great you’re taking on such significant projects as an intern. What has motivated you the most throughout the experience?

Ryan: The level of trust has been really motivating. As an intern, you sometimes expect to do smaller, less impactful tasks, but I’ve been given work that contributes to the business. That’s been huge for me—it shows that WSFS is willing to invest in interns and value our input.

Sadie: You mentioned the trust and support from your team. Has anyone in particular helped guide or mentor you along the way?

Ryan: Definitely. My manager, Matthew Kubler, Senior Vice President of Consumer Banking Finance & Analytics, has been incredibly supportive. I approach him for advice not just about my work, but also about finance more broadly. He’s honest, gives great feedback, and is really helping me grow.

Sadie: Beyond your projects and mentorship, how has the culture at WSFS shaped your summer?

Ryan: Since my first day, I felt welcomed and included. Even as interns, we’re treated like full members of the team. There’s a strong sense of collaboration and support, and people genuinely want to help you learn, which makes a big difference in feeling comfortable and confident. The internship program has also given me the opportunity to build friendships with fellow interns across different teams and offices. In fact, after an intern event in Wilmington, I drove five other interns back to Philadelphia. We were having such a great time getting to know one another that we decided to stop for dinner together before heading home. It’s been meaningful to make those kinds of connections.

Sadie: Looking ahead, how has this experience influenced your future career goals?

Ryan: I’m really interested in wealth management and developing my financial education teachings. Growing up in North Philadelphia, access to financial knowledge wasn’t always available, and learning about it changed my life. I want to help others gain the same confidence and control over their financial futures.

Sadie: To finish strong, for students considering an internship at WSFS, what’s one piece of advice you’d share?

Ryan: Don’t be afraid to connect with people. Everyone here is open to helping—you just have to reach out. Ask questions, stay curious, and take advantage of every opportunity to learn. And always show up with a positive attitude—it goes a long way.
