WSFS Bank Sportsplex officially opens its doors to the community through partnership with the Philadelphia Union

The doors of the WSFS Bank Sportsplex, a state of the art, $100 million dollar, 170,000-square-foot sports and recreation complex adjacent to Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania, are now open thanks to a partnership between WSFS Bank and the Philadelphia Union. The Thursday, July 17, ribbon-cutting celebration marks the first for Major League Soccer – a super campus that ties together the Union’s first team, second team, Philadelphia Union Academy and YSC Academy.
“Our partnership with the Philadelphia Union and the Philadelphia Union Foundation is a great example of the positive impact that can happen when like-minded organizations come together,” said Rodger Levenson, WSFS Chairman, President and CEO. “The WSFS Bank Sportsplex grand opening is another step in the legacy we’re building through our partnership, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for this incredible facility.”
Since the partnership began in 2022, the Union and WSFS have joined forces for the annual Backpack Carnival, Women’s History Month, and Juneteenth events.
“The opening of WSFS Bank Sportsplex marks a major milestone—not just for our organization, but for our entire community,” said Tim McDermott, Philadelphia Union President during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “This state-of-the-art facility is a commitment to creating opportunities, building connections, and fostering a love of the game for all. Together with WSFS Bank, we’re proud to invest in a space where families, athletes, and neighbors can come together and grow—on and off the field.”
True to WSFS’ mission of We Stand for Service, the organization is donating 365 hours each year of field and facility use for community organizations, health and wellness programming, and Chester youth programs. WSFS will also provide financial literacy courses and seminars.
The 32-acre Sportsplex, situated between Subaru Park and the Union Power Plant office building, is expected to bring in more than 500,000 visitors annually and create a $90 million impact over the next decade. The complex includes a 100,000 sq. ft. indoor facility that has a 125×75 yard turf field, two courts which are capable of hosting volleyball and futsal, a 20,000 sq. ft. performance center with weight room and sprint track, locker rooms and a café for athletes and guests. Outside, there are seven outdoor multi-sport fields including a championship grass field with spectator seating, two full-size grass fields, a youth-size grass field and three full-size turf fields. There is also a 70,000 sq. ft. support building that will be home to the Philadelphia Union II (MLS NEXT Pro) and Philadelphia Union Academy.
