WSFS Bank, Philadelphia Union and City Team Chester Give 1,000 Backpacks as Part of Annual Drive

With just a few weeks until the start of school, 1,000 students across the Philadelphia region will be going back to school in style thanks to WSFS Bank, The Philadelphia Union and City Team Chester, a non-profit who helps families and children in need with hot meals and essential supplies. The Union held its Backpack Carnival on Friday, August 15, at Subaru Park with the newly opened WSFS Sportsplex serving as the backdrop.

WSFS Bank Associates and dozens of other volunteers gave out school supplies to children across the community. The event also featured Union mascot Phang, face painting, inflatables, games and more – all designed to bring a smile to each of the children’s faces. It’s an event that’s become a cornerstone of the WSFS and Philadelphia Union partnership.

“We are proud to partner with the Union for our fourth year of this event,” said Justin Dunn, SVP, Chief Community Impact Officer. “Our ongoing partnership with the Union is a testament to the power of collaboration and service to the communities where we live, work, and play. We love to see the joy on these children’s faces as we help them prepare for the upcoming school year.”

Earlier this year, the WSFS Bank Sportsplex opened its doors to the community and more opportunities in the region. The state of the art, $100 million dollar, 170,000-square-foot sports and recreation complex will host events and matches for the club and the community. WSFS is also donating 365 hours of field and facility use each year for community organizations, health and wellness programming, and Chester youth programs. In addition, WSFS will provide financial education courses and seminars.
