From Intern to Senior Systems Engineer: Drew Moore Builds a Career and Technology Infrastructure at WSFS
Shortly after starting residential life at college, Drew Moore realized he was going to need to finance his education and enlisted in the Air National Guard, where he served as an RF Transmission Specialist.
Moore then continued his education online, earning his degree in information technology, but it was a meeting at a career fair that led to an internship and later a full-time career with WSFS that has now spanned eight years.
“I went to a career fair at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington and spoke to a recruiter from WSFS who mentioned they offered internships focused on technology,” Moore said. “At the time, I had no idea a bank could be a place for a technology career, but WSFS offered a variety of opportunities due to the size and scope of its Technology and Operations teams.”
After landing the internship, Moore started on the Service Desk while finishing his undergrad degree, later moving to the Deskside Support Team for a few years before joining his current team and advancing to the position of Senior Systems Engineer, Network and Technology Services.
In his current role, Moore is responsible for ensuring the health of WSFS’ cloud and other environments, helping with integrations for vendor products like SaaS, infrastructure maintenance for systems that need upgraded or decommissioned, as well as staying current on the latest trends and software releases to meet the needs of WSFS and its Customers.
“I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects at WSFS, like migrating infrastructure to the cloud, which was a large endeavor that spanned a few years, as well as a variety of SaaS integrations and more,” he said.
“Drew has risen to the challenge each and every time since joining WSFS,” said Lisa Brubaker, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “He is an excellent example of someone who has embraced our culture and emphasis on learning and development from the time he first started as an intern to build a successful career at WSFS and make an impact on our technology and infrastructure.”
“Drew has also gone the extra mile to increase his skillset outside of the Bank, and is a 2021 Fellow of the Leadership Delaware program, which WSFS sponsored him for,” added Brubaker. “This year-long series of issue-oriented forums and experiences helps to build and prepare the state’s brightest young leaders, and we were especially proud to see Drew serve as one the keynote speakers for his class at graduation.”
For Moore, the culture and people are what has stood out the most to him during his eight years with WSFS.
“WSFS truly cares about the success of its Associates as well as meeting their career interests,” he said. “When an opportunity came up with our server team, I expressed interest and was given the chance to learn and grow. WSFS is great at providing opportunities to get Associates where they want to be in their career journey.”
“Everyone is so friendly here and willing to help, regardless of what department they’re in, and that’s a testament to the culture,” Moore added. “They treat you like family and are always willing to help out.”
In addition to the culture and people, Moore has embraced the opportunity to work on challenging projects to help the Bank provide the best technology solutions.
“Within Technology and Operations there are a variety of roles and opportunities such as project management, deskside support, server administration and more,” he said. “Because of WSFS’ size and position, you have opportunities to see how all of the various functions come together.”
“People probably wouldn’t expect how cutting edge we are with technology, but because of our size we’re able to be nimble, and there are plenty of opportunities to work with the latest and greatest technology, which is a lot of fun,” Moore added.
