Why Should You Give Back to Your Community?

Why Should You Give Back to Your Community?

While we often stress how saving can help lead to a better life, it is just as important to remember to be a giver as well.

Giving back may be one of the most important principles in life. Those who are givers often receive the rewards of giving in many ways other than just financial gain.

It’s been written that the poor will always be among us, but in recent times these disparities have grown by leaps and bounds.

With the world mired in a pandemic, the importance of giving back has been magnified. Nonprofits and community organizations are feeling the strain of increased demand for services from those in need while funding for many has begun to dry up.

Most people give to charities because they believe in the cause or it’s something that has affected them deeply. Donations can be much more than just monetary, and with social distancing measures in place, it can take some creativity to think of ways to give back to your community.

As a Community Bank, I believe we have a responsibility to not only ask for the communities business and support, but to provide support to them as well. From things as simple as making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or writing encouraging notes, our Associates have found creative ways to give back and help lift up those in need during these challenging times.

And the community is not the only one that benefits from your efforts.

Giving back can help brighten your mood and provide an opportunity to meet your community. If you’re looking to advance your career, volunteering at nonprofits can also provide great networking opportunities and chances to serve on organizations’ boards and committees to gain leadership experience.

We all need a helping hand from time to time. It is often our communities that support us in those hard times, and now it is our turn to support them, as the rewards of pitching in and helping those in need can be one of the most enriching feelings in life – worth much more than money.
