WSFS Joins Forces with the Philadelphia Union for its Annual Backpack Carnival

Philadelphia Union Backpack CarnivalFor the second consecutive year, WSFS served as the presenting sponsor of the Philadelphia Union’s annual Backpack Carnival, teaming up with the Union and CityTeam Chester to set local students up for a successful school year.

On August 26, Team WSFS volunteers joined the Union and CityTeam Chester at Subaru Park to celebrate the start of the school year for local students with games, face painting, food, prizes, and a visit from Phang and the WSFS Ice Cream Truck.

Philadelphia Union Backpack CarnivalApproximately 2,000 students attended the annual event, taking part in a variety of activities to get them excited for the start of school while picking up backpacks filled with the school supplies they will need in the classroom this year.

In addition to the Union’s Backpack Carnival, each year, WSFS collects hundreds of backpacks and baskets filled with school supplies from its generous Associates to support schools located throughout its footprint in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Philadelphia Union Backpack CarnivalThe multi-year partnership between WSFS and the Union, which began in 2022, made WSFS the official bank partner and community supporter of the Philadelphia Union and Subaru Park. Since then, the organizations have teamed up in a variety of ways to support the community in addition to the Backpack Carnival, including Women’s Month initiatives, volunteering for “We Stand for Service Day” and a Juneteenth Celebration and Day of Service.

In April 2023, the Union and WSFS officially broke ground on the WSFS Bank Sportsplex located in Chester, Pa., to celebrate the start of construction for the 365-day-a-year, 170,000 sq. ft. complex, which is estimated to create $90 million in economic impact over the first decade. In addition, the Sportsplex will donate hundreds of additional hours in court and field time for community use and health and wellness programming, available to be used by Chester youth and local organizations.
